"Management Consultant" is a person or a firm that provides external advice to a company or organization in order to help it manage more effectively.
Unlike interim managers, management consultants do not become part of the organization they serve. They work on a specific issue for a defined period of time and leave the company once the objectives are achieved. They generally do not get involved in daily operations or routine workflows.

They typically work independently from both the organization's top-level executives and operational managers.
A management consultant and a business consultant are distinct roles and should not be confused with each other. Business consultants typically focus on a single, specific area, whereas management consultants deal with the organization as a whole.
